There are two charities that I'm taking part in, the first opens this weekend and is being presented by Leanna Lin's Wonderland and Supahcute. Doggie Wonderland "Fun Adventures with Your Best Friend" will benefit Ken-Mar Rescue, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit small dog rescue. All the artwork and products for this show are $100 or less and since it's a cash and carry event, I'd suggest getting there early and staking your claim. I'm super excited to be taking part in this!
The show will open with a reception at Leanna Lin’s Wonderland on Saturday, May 10 (6-10pm).
There are tons of wonderful pieces for this show and with everything priced at $100 or less, there's sure to be something for everyone.

You'll see right there in the middle is a mounted print of my painting "Tex". It will be priced at only $55. Leanna and Supahcute always put on such wonderful shows and with this one benefiting such a great cause I highly suggest heading over there and taking part.

The second charity is a slightly larger affair and is called More Than a Cone. They invited artists to re-imagine the "cone of shame” or e-collars as they are usually know.
They will be auctioning off the finished works at their Launch Party Extravaganza in Los Angeles on June 21, and you can join them.
Every single art piece will help benefit the great people at Best Friends Animal Society®; the only national animal welfare organization focused exclusively on ending the killing of dogs and cats in America’s shelters.
I was so excited to be asked to participate not only because it's for another amazing charity but because there are so many amazing artists and designers. I'm talking Todd Oldham, Wayne White and Mishka -- amazing.
We were all given a huge array of e-collars to work with and free reign to do whatever we wanted with them. I layed them out flat and thought and thought and then it hit me! The interior, negative space of the cone looked just like a dog head and body to me. I sketched up a fun pup with some of his buddies and here you have my painting,

I cannot imagine my life without my dogs (past and present) so both these charities hit close to home. If you're thinking about a new pet in your life please consider a shelter - you'll save a life and gain a best friend!

Tonight's the night! Opening in NYC for the first of a 4 city tour is the official Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary Art Show presented by Gallery 1988.
Ghostbusters! I couldn't get the dvd in my computer fast enough (for work purposes, of course) to watch it again and again. Classic. But how to commemorate such a classic movie? I was always partial to the demon dogs, Rick Moranis' character, Louis and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. I decided to start there and after playing around with some compositions this image just popped in my head. Clean, simple and it just made me laugh every time I looked at it.
I also made 50 limited edition prints (signed and numbered) that will only be available for purchase at the actual shows. This is true for all the artwork, except a small selection of prints. Meaning, if you want something from this show, you might want to mark your calendars and get to one of the above locations!
I was asked to participate in the Imaginary Friends show opening at Gallery Nucleus this Saturday and I couldn't have been happier. C'mon, my whole life is made up of imaginary friends. Big furry monsters seem to inhabit every corner of my home so this was a no brainer.

Ten years ago Katie Cromwell and Jensen Karp opened Gallery 1988 on Melrose Ave in Los Angeles. Tomorrow they celebrate the gallery's anniversary by throwing one heck of a show. It's called "The Subtle Art of Pop-Culture" and the line up for this one is truly amazing. I'm honored to have made the cut and was challenged to create a pop culture piece on the...well, subtle side. Something that would take people a second to figure out.
Picture a country club with lots of beautiful people swimming serenely in the pool. Sipping drinks and sunning themselves.
Add a healthy dose of rowdy caddies and one candy bar.

I decided to do a piece based off one of my favorite episodes, "Thank You". It's a sweet story of the Snow Golem and a lost Fire Wolf Pup and their unorthodox friendship. I call it

My show, I'm Not Hungry, at Gallery 1988 (East) comes to an end tomorrow. I painted my heart out for months and there are 30 originals hanging on those walls.
29 of those originals have sold. I'm flabbergasted, speechless. I couldn't have predicted this outcome in a million years. So much love for everyone who came out and bought one to support me. I hope they bring you smiles for years to come!
But hey...what about that last one? That Black and White Ruffed Lemur with his favorite fruit dancing on his head?
It's "Lee"!
He was one of the most fun to paint (love that fur!) and I'm sure he'll find a good home. You can see all the pieces from my show, purchase prints and maybe even good ol' "Lee" over at Gallery 1988.

How to encapsulate what just happened is going to be difficult.
But I'll try :)
Ed and I landed to a beautiful sunny day in downtown Los Angeles on Thursday. We got our In N' Out grilled cheese, fries and Neapolitan shake fix and were enjoying the 70 degree afternoon.
We knew it wasn't going to last...
Friday morning we awoke to torrential rain. News reports of mudslides, water spouts, thunderstorms and smoldering boulders falling down the mountains. Los Angeles ended up getting 4.5" of rain.
We started to get the feeling that people might not want to venture to my show opening seeing as accidents on the freeway were happening all over the place. We wanted everyone to be safe. We wanted California to get some much needed rain. I wasn't going to be selfish and resigned myself to the fact that not a lot was going to happen that night.
During a break in the storm, we drove over to Gallery 1988. Katie and John had done a wonderful job hanging the show, I couldn't have been happier!
A few people waited outside the closer it got to 7pm and the rain held off. Until 1 minute to 7, just before they were going to open the doors the loudest thunderclap and flash of lightening hit outside. The heavens opened up like someone just dropped a huge bucket of water over the street. I kid you not, I hadn't seen anything like it in my life.
"Quick! Get everyone inside!"
Pretty quickly red dots started to appear under the artwork. People were buying! More people started coming in, soaked to the bone and the night was off to a soggy, but awesome start. I was so touched that everyone had braved what was clearly a dangerous situation to support me. I can't thank them enough. I also want to thank the people that tried they're best to make it but couldn't due to the storm. It just means so much to me.
I got to meet so many of my fans who've supported me over the years. People who I've only know over the internet. Even got to see "Slice and Dice" tattooed on this gal's forearm - brilliant, overwhelming and super fun - many thanks Lindsey!
By the end of the night, I met so many wonderful, kind people and sold half the show. I still can't believe it.
The next day I was back at WonderGround Gallery premiering my "Stitch in Space". I was giddy to see that Stitch and his big tongue were still greeting guests in 15 ft banner form in Downtown Disney.
I was so happy to have met Gregg Visintainer, Jasmine Becket-Griffith and got to see Noah once again.
Such wonderful, kind, talented people, I felt truly honored to be sitting with them at that signing table.
Did I mention it rained? Yup, so many people braved the downpours once again to come to our event I was so touched. Thank you!
Later that afternoon we met up with our good friends and spent a quiet evening at their home with their pups watching tv. We got a good night's rest and headed back to Disneyland for a little r&r.
It poured but as we sat under an umbrella and ate warm grilled cheese sandwiches and hot tomato soup I realized that this was one of the best weekends of my life. Surrounded by wonderful people like Gallery 1988 (Jensen, Katie, John, Amber and Nikki - THANK YOU!!!), all my fans, the crew at WonderGround (Sonia and Martha thanks for everything!!!), new and old friends, I truly am blessed.
The sun finally came out, warmed us up and we had a great ending to a great adventure.
I will never forget it!

I'm having a hard time processing what next weekend will entail. My first full gallery solo with Gallery 1988 and the very next day I'll be back signing at WonderGround Gallery in Downtown Disney.
Seriously?
How did this happen - to me? I've got a serious dose of imposter syndrome so I'm just waiting for someone to tap me on the back and say, 'We made a mistake - please leave.'
But before that happens, I'll show off my latest Stitch painting for WonderGround Gallery, "Stitch in Space" (can't help but yell it everytime I say it):
I always loved that scene in "Lilo and Stitch" when they're outside the grocery store. What if Stitch got in that Space Adventure ride and it really took off? I kept the background loose like a children's drawing to help emphasize that this is taking place in Stitch's imagination while rendering the ship and Stitch fully. I really had a blast with this one (pardon the pun).

I am crazy with anticipation waiting for this show. It's been just about ten months since I started this and it's almost here!
As you can see, I'm continuing my I'm Not Hungry theme with 30 brand new paintings. I've got everything from dogs and cats to red pandas and vultures. I'll have limited edition prints available as well as a goodie or two for those that can make the actual opening.
For those that can't, I highly recommend you subscribing to Gallery 1988's newsletter on the front page of their website so you can know the instant the remaining artwork is posted online March 1st.
We're going to keep these guys underwraps until Feb 28th but here's "Meathead" to keep you going.
