Spiral

I just finished the last two commissions I got before I shut them down in February. I can't thank Joy and Jen enough for waiting so long for their pieces.

"Muddle" 7 x 9 acrylic on wood plaque. For Joy who simply gave me the word, 'mojito', and said run with it.

"Wahnilla" 5 x 5 acrylic on wood plaque. For Jen who loves vanilla beans, vanilla orchids, the beach and a bit of morbidity.

And with that I am bidding you farewell for the time being. I hope to be back in a month, or two. A good friend of mine brought it to my attention that Winston Churchill called his depression the black dog. My black dog has been following me for the past month but never quite out of sight. Now after circling around my feet he has jumped back up into my lap. I need to clean my system out before I can try my last med so a relapse was inevitable, I just didn't think it would be quite so quick.

Mmmm, mmmm, good...

Here's my final piece I was able to do for Art Amsterdam, "Soup du Jour" 10" x 8.5" acrylic on a custom wood plaque. It's my small homage to one of my favorite dishes -- crumbled Ritz crackers in Campbell's tomato soup. That and the fact that my dad worked for Nabisco :)

How I got these ambitious pieces done in the midst of the worst of my depression is beyond me. I think I must have been on auto pilot. Now staring at a piece I need to do I am at a loss for even how to begin to paint. I now have an idea of why people who cannot paint are amazed by people who can. It seems impossible right now. I'll take another shot at it tomorrow and hopefully will have something new soon.

Enjoy

Promise

I promised another of the last two paintings I had done for Art Amsterdam, which is going on right now. I humbly present, "Make Like a Banana...". Another large one for me, 14" x 9.5". Once again my dad helped me out by cutting the plaque :)

And as an added bonus, while painting I had a thought to take photos as I went along. I always love watching progress videos and thought I'd take a shot at it. I also wanted to thank Ed for putting together all the photos into the video, complete with soundtrack, while I was sleeping. You're the best :D Please enjoy!

Art Amsterdam 2010

I was asked to participate in this year's Art Amsterdam 2010 by artKitchen gallery. Their theme is food and they are putting together a book to accompany the show. "Captain Kawaii" was selected for the book and below is the first of what I hope will be four total pieces I will have at the show.

"Slice and Dice" 15.5" x 9" acrylic on custom wood plaque.

Since things have been a bit difficult on both myself and Ed, we decided that it was time for a short vacation. We've never been to Amsterdam (or the whole of Europe for that matter) and will be flying in the last day of the show. Enjoy.

The Doodlebug

I'm not big on taking on commissions involving people's pets, but only because I have no self-esteem when it comes to my work. I've got my set shape and pose and trying to capture someone's beloved pet is too much for me to handle.

Then along came The Doodlebug. Andrew Moore contacted me about doing a commission for his wife, Pamela, of their dog, Felicity. But she's not called Felicity, she's called The Doodlebug. She's even got her own blog, It's the Doodlebug!

After seeing this pic of her when she was a pup, I had to try and do something.

I hope I did justice to the Doodlebug as she seems like a lovely pup. Many thanks to Andrew and Pamela for believing in my work. Enjoy!

New Amazing Lockets!

...by the wonderful Catherine Ivins of Polarity featuring some of my artwork!!! I posted about these adorable lockets a few months ago and after emailing Catherine she graciously decided to include me as one of her featured artists. The first set is 'Juicy' and you get three magnetic lids with your cute locket on a generous 30" chain. She has loads of other wonderful images and you can even mix and match your lids with other artists. So go take a look and watch out for more wonderful things in the near future :D

Well, Would You Look at That...

I made a leap a couple months ago and actually went out into the great unknown in hopes of trying to promote myself. Ed and I went to Asbury Park as it's a hotbed of galleries and shops. In a lovely series of events we were able to sit down and meet Jenn at Parlor Gallery. What a lovely gal. Actually everyone we meet in Asbury is gracious and kind. Odd for New Jersey. Maybe it's the ocean air that relaxes people.

So Jenn at Parlor Gallery asked Ed and I to join in their Holiday Art Show opening up next week, Friday, December 11th at 7pm. How cool is that? All the art is going to be specially priced under $500 and there'll be a DJ and food and drinks and Ed and I :D

This is the largest piece that I've done to date. A whopping 11" x 11", it's called "A Cold Day"

If you are anywhere in the area stop by, say hello, see some art, buy some art and I'm sure you'll fall in love with Asbury Park (if you haven't already).
