Dendrology Prints/Spring/Retired Sale!

Hi everyone!

I've been busy printing up a storm here and I'm proud to say my shop is brimming with brand new prints. All five of my Dendrology Mythology creatures are now available as both 8" x 10" signed prints as well as 11" x 14" signed prints. With all the details in these images, I just couldn't resist printing them out larger!

I've also started my annual Spring Sale. As always, I chose a few prints to send into retirement so make sure you get these while they're still available. Lots of favorites on sale for up to $10 off too!

Thanks for all the support and have fun -

Oz

I was asked by Gallery Nucleus to do a couple paintings for their Not in Kansas Anymore: A Tribute to the Wizard of Oz show that opened last night. I immediately knew I wanted to do my version of a winged monkey. Here's "Nikko and Toto"

Since I never read any of the books when I was a kid (shame on me) and I was sick and running a high fever, I thought I'd take a few days rest and read some of the books. What a delight! I had no idea the world that Baum had created beyond the first book! So many wonderful characters, it quickly became apparent that I had to choose ONE to paint. But I loved so many of them...the Queen of the field mice, King Dox, Jack Pumpkinhead, Eureka.

But Billina, Dorothy's companion on her second trip to Oz, Queen and subsequent Governor of the chickens of Oz was my choice. Especially with my long love of painting chickens!

So here's "Billina" with her pearl and sapphire necklace (for special occasions only) sitting on her silver perch...

So many thanks to Gallery Nucleus for inviting me to do this show and opening up the whole world of Oz for my inspiration. I have a feeling I'm going to be visiting these characters again in the future!

"Nikko and Toto" sold, but there are prints available here.

"Billina" is still available here.

Enjoy!

GH-05-T

I'm sure everyone is familiar with my husband, Ed Mironiuk. He's been the illustrator for Tattoo Magazine for 20 years, pinup artist extraordinaire and all around great guy.

I love him.

He's starting a new artistic adventure, far from the tattoos and pinups you may be familiar with and although he originally wanted to stay anonymous, he's decided to come out of his cocoon with it.

He'll be working under the name GH-05-T and I proudly present a selection of his works --  I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Just in Case...

...you didn't see them, the full pieces from my mini showcase at Auguste Clown Gallery are now online. They did such a wonderful job framing them, I'm considering framing all my work now!

This is "Betula" and she's the only creature who didn't find a forever home during the preview.

(Update: she's sold) If you're looking for something to put on your walls, won't you consider her?

Little Wren says, "Yes!"

And if you are looking for prints, I'm going to be producing the series along with the gallery so no one will have to pay such high shipping costs no matter what side of the world you're on :)

Many thanks to everyone else who gave a home to one of my woodland friends!

Dendrology Mythology

I am really excited to show you the new work for my Dendrology Mythology show at Auguste Clown Gallery in Fitzroy, Australia that opens Friday (15 March). We're keeping it to sneak peeks right now, but here's a bit of background on how I came up with the concept.

Detail "Zephyr" acrylic on woodI began reading a book from 1880 by Wirt Sikes, "Welsh Folk-Lore, Fairy Mythology, Legends and Traditions" and the line, "The chief philosopher of that enchanted region was a giant who sat on a mountain peak and watched the stars." sparked my first piece, "Zephyr".

While I was reading the book, we were in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy (and the blizzard that hit a week later), surrounded by huge oak trees broken in half, houses torn from their foundations and I began to imagine my own mythology of protectors and guardians to help me cope.

I went back to what I've always loved - songbirds, the forest and combined them into beings that I hope the viewer will want to know more about...to be friends with. Take a walk into the woods and peek under fallen trees and around clear, still pools and you might just see one of these creatures. And if you don't, know that they are still around, just out of sight, keeping you safe.

Many thanks to Auguste Clown for allowing me to show my work and hopefully make some people smile. For those of you in the area, they will also have my signed and mounted prints, some larger framed prints along with the original paintings on view.

If you want to receive the online preview which will go out Tuesday at 10pm EDT (in NYC) then please sign up for Auguste Clown's mailing list here.

Have a great day and thanks for reading!

Regal Mounted Prints

I know you've been looking for a brand new mounted print from me - haven't you? Well, how about two? Just for you, I've made "Queen Bee" and "King Crab" into mounted prints on 6.75" squares. They have the same high gloss finish and clean black painted edging as all my other pieces so they'll fit right into your collection (or look mighty fine on their own!).  Available exlusively in the Cuddly Rigor Mortis shop.

Young Adult Show

I've been holding off on showing this piece, but since the Huffington Post showed it, I guess I can too! It's for the Gallery 1988 & Hello Giggles show Young Adult, that opens February 2nd at 7pm. The show includes artwork inspired by the Nancy Drew, Sweet Valley High, Baby-Sitters Club and Goosebumps book series. I took my cues from R.L. Stine's Goosebumps. I also did a super limited edition (only 10!) print run that will be available at the show.

Magical

I just got back from California and I'm trying to wrap my brain around what just happened. Let me walk you through my day Saturday.

Ed and I woke up to this beautiful view and an absolutely clear, blue California sky. I was feeling really good and oddly, not too nervous. We began to walk over to the Grand Californian where we were to meet our escort to the gallery.

As we walked under the Disneyland sign and were surrounded by guests wearing Mickey Mouse ears (and Oswald ears too!) I began to get a little knot in my chest.

Passing under some spectacular banners for California Adventure and again, that beautiful blue sky shining down upon us.

The entrance to Downtown Disney was straight ahead and I began to realize that we were going to pass right by the WonderGround Gallery on our way to the hotel. Deep breathing commenced.

We turned the corner and there was the gallery with those huge banners hanging in the entrance. And yes, there was my Oswald, smiling down on me. Crying commenced.

I composed myself and we continued on to the hotel where we met up with J. Scott Campbell and Miss Mindy. They were so kind and welcoming, I began to wonder why I had been so nervous before!

But when I got to my table, I admit I was nervous again. Then I took a deep breath and looked up at that brilliant sky as "Feliz Navidad" (my favorite Christmas song) began to play on the loud speakers and I took it all in. This was going to be a very good day :D

The Ambassadors for the event kept everything very mellow and the guests were so nice. I always love meeting the people that my artwork is making happy. Mike Stilkey's stunning painted book sculpturesMany thanks also to Mike Stilkey and Miss Mindy who sat on either side of me and made me laugh. Miss Mindy's amazing sculptures!I also had the pleasure of meeting Noah. He actually bought one of my prints and handed it to me to draw all over the matte for him. That wonderful gesture helped focus me and gave me that little boost I needed to keep going.

Some merchandise placed right next to Jerrod Maruyama's great work.

An overview of the gallery - you can also see the wide screen monitors that were displaying the artists' photos and work. It was also a great pleasure to sit down and talk with Stephanie Buscema and her husband at lunch along with meeting Nei Ruffino, Michelle Romo, Martin Hsu, Jackie Huang, Ming Ong and Sean Chao. All amazing artists and such nice people!

I can only hope that I get to do it again some day :)
