Mr. McPrickles

Meet "Mr. McPrickles", my latest piece

He was accepted into Gallery Nucleus' Power In Numbers project and will go on sale this Saturday, April 23rd. He measures 5" x 7" (like all the PIN pieces) and will be $100. My proceeds from the sale will go to UNICEF. A portion of every sale, and they are priced at either $50 or $100, goes to benefit the artist's chosen charity.

AND once the piece is sold a button will go up under it saying 'Print Request'. If enough people request a print, Gallery Nucleus will go ahead and do a print run :)

It's a great project and there's tons of great work at very affordable prices. I'm honored to be included.

Sweet!

My cutest friend passed along this pic to me as she knows I am a fan of both cake and Katamari.

It was featured on Musthavecute.com which is part of the I Can Has Cheezburger? family of sites. I'm perplexed that there wasn't any further info on who the amazing baker/artist was that crafted this beauty, but glad nonetheless to have it in my brain now.

Progress

I had a theme of 'tigers' for one of this month's Flash Magazine illustrations. After doing the initial sketch...

...I was inspired to actually paint him instead of continuing on in Photoshop for the final. I roughed in the colors, shading and textures in Photoshop...

...and then transferred that to a plaque and began painting yesterday afternoon:

Just a teeny bit nervous since this is my first painting in months, but then again, I was always nervous painting ;)

Sanrio 50th

This week is Sario's big 50th anniversary celebration at Small Gift LA. There's an amazing art show as well which includes work from Eric Joyner, Nouar, Gary Baseman and Joe Ledbetter to name just a few of the 50 artists involved.  It reminded me of two commissions that I did last year and never posted.

"Hello Candy" acrylic on wood

"My Sweet Melody" acrylic on wood

Maybe if I keep at this art thing I might get invited to the 75th anniversary ;)

Cuddly Coffin via Orneryboy

I had the best email yesterday from Michael Lalonde who creates the comic Orneryboy He made a little coffin for the Zombie I had made for he and his wife, Jen, and sent along pics of it. It is awesome and I wanted to share a bit of win with you all today.

And please check out his flickr account for closeups and how he made it.

AND...while you're looking around at cute, morbid things, check out Jen's shop, Sick On Sin. It's chock full of Michael's characters on tshirts, buttons, etc. Like this Cupcake Fiends button set (and you can get any of these illos on tshirts as well)

Or the Gulf Gang set where Sick On Sin is donating 100% of the profits from sales of this pack to the National Audubon Society, an organization that has protected birds, wildlife and their habitats for over 100 years.

Check them both out and give them some love. They are wonderful people who have supported CRM and myself over the years and I'm honored to know them.

Enjoy :)

Promise

I promised another of the last two paintings I had done for Art Amsterdam, which is going on right now. I humbly present, "Make Like a Banana...". Another large one for me, 14" x 9.5". Once again my dad helped me out by cutting the plaque :)

And as an added bonus, while painting I had a thought to take photos as I went along. I always love watching progress videos and thought I'd take a shot at it. I also wanted to thank Ed for putting together all the photos into the video, complete with soundtrack, while I was sleeping. You're the best :D Please enjoy!

I'm Going to Roll Him in a Tortilla and...

I'm going to bite his little head off !!!!(this is a good thing. When there is something so cute you can't stand it, say you're going to roll it up in a tortilla and bite it's head off. As in this pic

So I just found Skunkboy Creatures via Shanalogic and I was torn on which of her cute creations to bite but finally decided on Suzette the Little Grey Elephant.

Hand made of vintage materials -- I'm dying here! There are only a few things that get to me. Suzette got me! Kudos to Katie for making such adorable plushes. Visit her Etsy and blog and give her a little love.
